"Tips and Tricks" for an easier, everyday life!!

  • Dryer sheets act as an odor absorber/air freshener, and is especially good at helping with musty or cigarette odors.  Use under the seats in the car, in the bottom of a wastebasket or in dresser drawers.  Replace as needed.
  • Panty hose runs- dab clear fingernail polish on a snag before a run begins to prevent further rippping.
  • Lint Roller- wrap masking tape around your hand, sticky side out.

Stains

  • Rust- Lay garment flat in direct sunlight, preferalby where it won't be disturbed.  Soak area with lemon juice.  Cover spot with salt, regular table salt will work.  Let sit in sun for at least 2 hours, then wash.  Repeat if necessary.  Some stains may not come out completely if they've been set in too long.
  • Blood-Rinse fresh stains in cold water and rub with soap.
  • Blood-For tougher, set-in stains, pour perioxide directly onto stain.  When it stops bubbling, blot with rag soaked in cold water.  Repeat until stain is gone.
  • Ink-Spray with hair spray and let stand for a few minutes (until dry), then hand wash.
  • Ink-Try dabbing rubbing alcohol onto the stain.  If it's a larger, more set-in stain try pouring the alcohol onto it.  Rinse with cold water.
  • Grass-Pretreat with hydrogen peroxide before regular launder.  The tougher the fabric, the more treatment needed (in other words...jeans need to be pretreated well).
  • Gum-Place garment in a plastic baggie and put in freezer for 4 to 8 hours.  Once hard, remove and chip away gum (the bag is to keep the garment protected from whatever is in your freezer!!).
  • Sweat/Under Arm Prespiration-If using bleach in wash, pretreat first by scrubbing with lemon juice and cold water.
  • Sweat/Under Arm Prespiration-Pretreat with white vinegar (do not use bleach in wash with this method, it creates a toxic gas).
