"Tips and Tricks" for an easier, everyday life!!


Brownie Jar

  • 1 quart canning jar and lid
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Layer ingredients in order given in a quart glass jar. Place lid and ring on securely.  You can add a circle of fabric underneath the ring to add some color to the jar.  Use computer to print or let the kids make handmade tags to wrap with twine around neck of jar.  Stick-on labels work too.  Make sure to include baking instructions.  Chocolate chips can be replace by M&M's, Reese's Pieces, or other candy desired. 

Chocolate Chip Cookie Jar

  • 1 Quart Jar, with lid
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup white sugar  

Mix together salt, baking soda, and flour.  Then layer ingredients in order given in a quart glass jar. Marshmallow Treat Pops

  • 6 cups of crisped rice cereal
  • 1 cup M&Ms candy
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1 (10 ounce) package miniature marshmallows
  • 12 (5 ounce) size paper cups (wax lined works best)
  • 12 popsicle sticks

Combine cereal and candy; set aside.  In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt margarine and marshmallows together, stirring constantly.  Combine marshmallow mixture with cereal mixture and stir well.  Mix completely until all cereal is coated.  Spoon mixture into paper cups and press lightly to fill. Insert Popsicle sticks into the center of the mixture and press again lightly with fingers. Let cool completely then serve!!

"Puppy" Chow

  • 9 cup Chex
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Put cereal in large bowl. In medium saucepan or microwave (on half-heat) and stirring frequently, melt chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter until smooth. Stir in vanilla. Pour over Chex cereal, put into a large plastic bag with powdered sugar and shake well to coat. Spread mixture evenly on wax paper and allow to cool.

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

  • Pumpkin Seeds, clean and dry
  • 2 tablespoons of cooking oil
  • Salt, to taste

    Place pumpkin seeds in a zipper bag and coat with oil. Spread onto a cookie sheet and salt lightly. Bake at 250 degrees for 45 minutes.

  • Trail Mix

    Combine any combination of the following ingredients...

    • Reese's Pieces candies
    • Cinnamon Heart Candies
    • Semi-Sweet Chocolate chips
    • Peanut butter chips
    • White Chocolate chips
    • Shelled sunflower seeds
    • Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
    • Cocktail peanuts
    • Mixed nuts
    • Raisins
    • Coconut flakes
    • Cheese Crackers or Goldfish
    • Pretzel sticks
    • Dried Fruit-cranberries, blueberries, bananas, apricots, pineapple, apples
    • Marshmallows
    • Rice or Corn Chex Cereal

    Baking Instructions for Jar Recipes

    Brownies

    Attach the following directions to the jar: Empty mix into large bowl. Use your hands to mix thoroughly. Add 3/4 cup of butter or margarine and 4 slightly beaten eggs. Mix until completely blended. Spread batter into a lightly greased or sprayed 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) for 30 minutes or until done. Cool in pan. Cut into 2 inch squares.

     

    Chocolate Chip Cookies

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  In a large bowl, cream 1 cup of unsalted butter or margarine until light and fluffy. Beat in 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Stir in cookie mix. Drop teaspoonfuls of dough, spaced well apart, onto a greased cookie sheet.  Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in preheated oven, or until lightly browned. Cool on wire racks.
