"Tips and Tricks" for an easier, everyday life!!
Make it a Game
- Challenge them. Ask them to find all the red blocks, or articles of clothing.
- Make and use a spinning wheel to help pick which chore is next or who does what.
- Mimic a kangaroo and have them stuff their shirts with toys like a joey in a mom's pouch, then let them hop off to their room to put them away.
- Have a race...reward the winner and loser!!
Let them feel like grown ups
- Help by working with them. Nothing makes a child feel more grown up than by doing the same thing adults do!
- Give them their own cleaning tools. A child size broom and duster easy to find, have them help sweep the floor and dust non-breakable things like the tv or furniture.
Reward Charts
- This teaches them to set goals for themselves.
- Keep a "Score" sheet. Reward points for every task completed. The harder the task the more points earned.
- Use a ladder system. The more they do, the better the reward. Example: 2 chores may credit extra t.v. time, but 10 chores and they get to go to lunch at McDonald's!!!
- Vary the rewards based on the child. What's exciting to one, may not be worth it to another.
